Played a bit of this over the weekend during Eastenders and The X-Factor. I've still not managed much above 600m in the 1000m arcade mode.


Not having any trouble with the controls, though - apart from the odd times where my thumb seems to forget where the d-pad is - I'm just being an idiot.

Didn't play a lot last night, but when I do play, I try the 1000m arcade mode.


My current best is 632m, which is almost respectable. This is still using the virtual pad controls, by the way.

If you want more information, well, it's not packed with modes, but it's got quite a few. It doesn't have any characters in it apart from Susumu, at least not unlocked at the start.

The controls are where some people are having trouble, but I find the virtual pad works fine. Sometimes I drill in the wrong direction, but I'd say it probably works better than the 360 controller for me, though there's not much in it. I've done the 500m challenge with only one life lost, to give you an idea.

Anyway, I love Mr Driller, so I love this.

So, I set myself up with new games aplenty and what do I end up playing on the first proper day of my holiday? Old stuff. Mr Driller, for example, though I kept turning it off in disgust at my rubbishness, then back on a few minutes later.

Not a community game! I noticed that my score in quest mode was terrible and that I was bottom of my friends list. So I played for ages and got... one place higher. And I'm meant to be quite good at this game. For some reason I kept dying at about 900m on the 1000m stage.

I also spent some time trying the 3000m stage in normal mode, but didn't get close.

N+ seems to have made me rubbish at Mr Driller. I was trying to 1,500m stage and kept dying stupid deaths. Didn't really get anywhere at all. Still, it's Mr Driller, so it's not like I didn't enjoy myself.

Some terrible performances which are probably best forgotten, Suffice to say that I managed to die before reaching 500m on all the attempts.

A quick couple of goes in bed. Controls felt slightly clunky, but at least they didn't kill me.

Haven't taken this online yet - which sounds like a good thing, as it's apparently horribly broken - but I did have another quick go at the India stage between Mad Men and bed. Didn't do awfully well and lost one life simply because the controller didn't seem to want me to drill upwards. Gah. That's the funny thing, when the controls are working they feel more fluid and responsive than just about any other version of the game, but when the stick refuses to go in quite the direction you want it to, it's horrible.

Hooray! Well, it ate my day, but I've finished the 1000m stage. The 1500m stage hasn't fallen yet, my best being 1075m.

Yes, but this is definitely worth a place in my all time top ten.

It's still got it. Nothing was holding my attention last night, until I fell back to this old favourite. Tried the 1000m challenge that I've never completed and didn't do too badly, but couldn't get there.

So I went back and a game of this. Tried the 1000m level and got to 867m - my best depth ever. Nice to know my skills haven't died completely while I've been away, though I'm still obviously a bit rubbish.
